Minutes of the Heartland Apartment Association
Board of Directors Meetings

5/31/01, 7:45 A.M.

Pursuant to the memoranda dated 05/14/01, the May Heartland Apartment Association Board of Directors meeting was held at the above stated date and time at the offices of Midland Property Management, 2001 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Mission Hills, Kansas.

Board members present were: Lee Harris, Doug Price, Chris Erdley, and Ward Katz. Also present were: Jim Beverlin, Rick Oddo, Ralph Lewis, and Sam Alpert. (Jerry Miller, Ron Nolan, Greg Bates, Lenny Ozar, Ken Riedemann, Bill Charcut, Nick Moos, and Nancy Smith were absent.)

Doug Price called the meeting to order.

The minutes of the last meeting (04/26/01), which had been previously circulated, were reviewed and approved by those present.

The April financial statement, which had been previously circulated, was reviewed and approved by those present.

Sam Alpert reported on the May legislative activity (see attached).

Sam Alpert reported that the 2001 / 2002 Board of Directors election ballot returns have been coming in to the HAA offices slow to meet the June 20th deadline.

Doug Price reported that he and Jerry Miller have had a preliminary meeting with AAKC officials to discuss a closer working relationship between our organizations. Doug Price, Jerry Miller, and Sam Alpert will hold further discussions on this matter prior to the next Board meeting, at which time the full Board will consider a proposed arrangement.

Doug Price reported that he had challenged HUD to support claims of housing discrimination brought against his firm. The confrontation stemmed from HUD's insistence on pushing for a financial settlement without making full disclosure of their (HUD's) findings.

In order to accommodate a number of Board members' schedules, the next regularly scheduled meeting of the HAA Board of Directors is to be held on Thursday, June 21, 2001, 7:45 A.M. at the offices of Midland Property Management, 2001 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Mission Hills, Kansas.

There being no further business to come before the Board of Directors, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:15 a.m.
